Proposed Revision of International Standards Crucial in Accreditation

ISO-IEC LogosTwo international (ISO/IEC) standards crucial to accreditation face the commencement of review in the next 6-12 months.

One relates to the operation of accreditation bodies such as NATA (and JAS-ANZ) that accredit conformity assessment bodies - laboratories, inspection bodies and certification bodies. The other relates to testing and calibration laboratories.

NATA will be involved in any working groups that are formed and will be assisted in this through funding from the Support for Industry Service Organisations (SISO) program provided by the Department of Industry.

  • Proposed early revision of ISO/IEC 17011

ISO is currently going through a process to initiate the revision of ISO/IEC 17011 Conformity assessment-General requirements for accreditation bodies accrediting conformity assessment bodies. This is expected to begin in the new financial year.

  • Proposed early revision of ISO/IEC 17025

There is currently an international vote through ISO CASCO to seek an early review of ISO/IEC 17025. (ISO/IEC 17025 is due for an enquiry on systematic review in 2015.) The vote ends on 19 September 2014.
