Guidance for Achieving Compliance of Building and Construction Products

On 1 September 2014, the Hon. Bob Baldwin MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Industry, launched a new guidance document prepared by the Construction Product Quality Working Group on behalf the Australasian Procurement and Construction Council (APCC) Procurement of Construction Products – A guide to achieving compliance.

The Working Group comprised representatives of many of the major organisations in the building and construction industry as well as NATA and JAS-ANZ.

The Guide aims to assist procurers of building and construction products to have a more informed understanding of the Regulatory and conformity assessment frameworks that apply in this sector.

The Guide has chapters covering the Regulatory environment, standards and conformance and selecting the appropriate conformity assessment option as well as information on a number of industry conformity assessment schemes.

The Guide also provides assistance for procurers in how to determine whether products are fit for the intended purpose(s) through decision trees for the design and specification stage and onsite construction stage of a building project.

The Guide is intended for use by anyone with responsibility for the procurement or specification of building and construction products including architects, engineers, building designers, specifiers, procurers, builders, project managers, contractors, sub-contractors, building surveyors, certifiers and asset and building owners.

The Guide is available at the APCC’s website.
