This training course has been designed to meet current industry expectations to understand and implement ISO/IEC 17025:2017 General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.

The course examines the purpose and application of these requirements to assist Learners in contributing to the implementation of the requirements in their laboratory.

It is not intended for this course to provide a detailed learning/discussion on every specific clause of the Standard but rather to provide an overview of the requirements.

ISO/IEC 17025 is an international quality management system Standard specifically for laboratories. It outlines the controls required to manage risks, and tools to help the laboratory improve its operations and customer satisfaction. The Standard’s requirements are designed to apply to all types of laboratories and testing facilities.

All levels of staff involved with establishing, implementing and maintaining laboratory quality and technical systems would find this course valuable.

Although not a prerequisite, it is advantageous for learners to have some previous exposure to ISO/IEC 17025 and/or auditing.

  • Purposes of the standard
  • The history of accreditation requirements for laboratories and testing facilities
  • A laboratory’s process
  • Structure of the standard
  • Clauses of ISO/IEC 17025 (a facilitated discussion will occur with each clause)

The main objective of this course is to introduce the learner to the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Standard, and the various clauses and terminology that laboratories are assessed against for accreditation purposes.
Upon successful completion of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Identify and understand the general requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2017
  • Understand processes for controlling risks associated with the laboratory’s testing processes
  • Apply the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 to laboratory systems

Learners will complete an assessment task at the end of the workshop. The assessment is an optional component of the course.

If completed successfully, participants will receive an Exemplar Global Certificate of Successful Completion. A NATA Certificate of Attendance will be issued to those participants who do not wish to undertake the assessment task.
