A Lead Assessor’s Perspective on Boral’s 60-year Accreditation Celebration
NATA team

When Boral Resources (Vic) Pty Ltd recently celebrated 60 continuous years of NATA accreditation, Mark Schembri, NATA Lead Assessor had the privilege of joining staff for a lunchtime event marking this remarkable achievement. It was a proud occasion that recognised six decades of commitment to quality, technical excellence and confidence in testing.

This Mark’s perspective.

Having worked with Boral for many years, the milestone held particular significance for me. I first visited Boral’s accredited facilities in 2002 and have maintained a close relationship with the organisation ever since. Over that time, I have had the opportunity to witness firsthand the important role accreditation plays in supporting Boral’s operations and the dedication of the people who continually uphold its standards.

What stood out during the celebration was the genuine pride staff have in the achievement. Employees from across the business, including both long-serving team members and newer recruits, came together to recognise a shared commitment that has spanned generations. It was clear that accreditation is viewed as far more than a compliance requirement. It forms part of the culture of Boral’s laboratory operations and underpins a commitment to consistency, reliability and continuous improvement.

The event also provided an opportunity to reflect on how much has changed over the past 60 years. Testing technologies, laboratory systems and industry expectations have evolved significantly, but Boral’s commitment to delivering trusted and dependable results has remained constant. Behind that success are generations of laboratory professionals who have worked diligently to maintain technical competence and adapt to changing requirements while embracing innovation.

Since the introduction of the Client Coordinator role, I have served as Boral’s primary contact, providing a unique perspective on the company’s accreditation journey. Through this relationship, I have worked closely with many talented and dedicated staff members and gained a deep appreciation for the professionalism, expertise and pride within the organisation. Boral’s commitment to accreditation is evident not only during assessments, but in the way quality principles are embedded into everyday laboratory activities.

Reaching 60 years of continuous accreditation is an exceptional achievement and a testament to the people, systems and culture that have sustained this commitment over time. It was a pleasure to join the team in celebrating this milestone and recognising the contribution accreditation has made to Boral’s success over the past six decades. Learn more here
