
NMI is the Australian Government’s national authority on measurement. Their work aims to ensure a fair, safe, healthy and competitive Australia.
NMI’s activities include:
- developing and maintaining internationally-recognised national measurement standards
- delivering world-class measurement products, advice and client services
- administering Australia’s regulatory framework for measurement.
They also develop and maintain Australia’s physical, chemical and biological measurement standards:
- to ensure Australian measurements are traceable to the International System of Units (SI)
- to realise the legal units of measurement
- and to underpin their world-class measurement products and client services.
Measurement science changes with advances in science and technology, and NMI works continuously to develop the measurement capabilities Australia needs.
