Responsible AI use at NATA
NATA team

Artificial intelligence is creating new opportunities to improve efficiency, enhance decision-making and deliver greater value. As AI becomes more integrated into our everyday activities, it is vital that its use is guided by strong governance, clear accountability and ethical principles.

To support this, NATA is using ISO/IEC 42001, the international standard for Artificial Intelligence Management Systems (AIMS), as a guiding framework for the responsible, safe and effective use of AI across our organisation.

ISO/IEC 42001 provides a structured approach to managing both the opportunities and risks associated with AI. It promotes transparency, accountability and continuous improvement, helping organisations use AI in a way that aligns with their objectives while maintaining trust and integrity.

For NATA, responsible AI is about more than technology. It is about how we use AI in our day-to-day work. Whether drafting content, analysing information, automating routine tasks or supporting decisions, every employee has a role to play in ensuring AI is used thoughtfully and responsibly.

This means:

  • Critically reviewing AI-generated content before using it.
  • Verifying information for accuracy and reliability.
  • Protecting confidential and sensitive information.
  • Following established policies and business processes.
  • Applying human judgement to every decision and action.

Most importantly, accountability always remains with the person using the technology. AI can support productivity and provide valuable insights, but it cannot replace professional expertise, experience or responsibility. Human oversight is essential to ensuring outcomes remain accurate, ethical and fit for purpose.

By embracing the principles of ISO/IEC 42001, NATA is fostering a culture of transparency, trust, risk awareness and continuous improvement. It provides a shared understanding of what responsible AI use looks like and helps ensure emerging technologies are applied consistently across the organisation.

As we continue to innovate, NATA is committed to balancing opportunity with responsibility. By aligning with internationally recognised best practice, we can harness the benefits of AI while protecting the interests of our people, members, stakeholders and the broader community.

At NATA, responsible AI is not just about adopting new technology. It is about building trust, strengthening decision-making and ensuring innovation is guided by integrity, accountability and human expertise.
