Woodside Energy (Woodside), a global energy company founded in Australia, provides reliable and affordable energy to help people lead better lives, has achieved 40 years of accreditation with NATA.
The company started its accreditation journey in 1984 with the production of Condensate, which forms when natural gas is cooled to a temperature below its hydrocarbon dew point, causing the natural gas liquids (NGL) to condense into a liquid. With this process, Woodside was instrumental in establishing the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry in Australia.
In 1989, Woodside wanted its laboratory to produce certified test results for the subsequential Bill of Sales for Condensate and Gas. As part of its licence to operate, the laboratory also had to produce certified results for environmental analysis.
A growing list of accreditations
Woodside’s laboratory was initially accredited by NATA in the areas of 7.16 Fuels, 7.65 Air, 7.66 Waters, 7.84 Residues, and contaminants of the environment. Over the years, its list of accreditations has grown to include 38 areas.
The company has kept many of the same accreditations over the 40 years, adding and removing tests when new technology or equipment were introduced. While the Bill of Sales suite of tests may not have changed significantly over the years, Woodside has adapted its methods and processes to changes in environmental requirements.
Accreditation has helped ensure Woodside’s shipping results have a level of credibility to back the quality of its products. It has also enabled its laboratory to show that its environmental analysis is trustworthy, which has allowed the company to extend its capabilities into environmentally sensitive places.

Since the 1980s, Woodside has evolved from a natural gas explorer and developer into a global energy powerhouse and one of Australia’s top export revenue contributors. The natural gas produced by Woodside is helping to meet the world’s increasing energy demands, providing a reliable and secure source of energy as the world advances in new energy products and lower-carbon technologies.
