Alliance Geotechnical: Streamlining Accreditation Through Best‑Practice Sharing
NATA team

It has been one year since Alliance Geotechnical’s (AG) Wollongong laboratory achieved NATA accreditation, marking an important milestone for the consultancy. This accreditation builds on AG’s long-standing credentials, following the accreditation of its base laboratory in Seven Hills, New South Wales, in 2004.

With more than two decades of accredited operations, the Seven Hills laboratory provided Wollongong with a strong foundation of knowledge to draw on throughout its own accreditation journey. Access to established systems and experienced personnel enabled the Wollongong team to avoid common pitfalls and implement a robust quality framework from day one.

Staff at the Seven Hills laboratory supported the process by sharing best practices across key areas including audit preparation, proficiency testing, traceability, staff training, document control, and calibration routines. Leveraging this expertise, the Wollongong laboratory strengthened its internal processes, enhanced team accountability, and ultimately achieved a high standard of work that met NATA’s rigorous requirements.

Recognising that accreditation is an ongoing commitment, the Wollongong laboratory has appointed a dedicated Lab Quality Manager who conducts regular site visits to maintain training, oversight, and support. A strong team of signatories also shares responsibility for upholding high standards, ensuring consistency and continual improvement across the laboratory’s operations.

Looking ahead, the Wollongong laboratory aims to expand its scope of testing and further develop its capability to support larger and more complex projects in the region. Continued growth will reinforce its role as a trusted provider of geotechnical testing services and set a strong benchmark for quality within the industry.

The addition of an accredited Wollongong laboratory has also strengthened AG’s ability to service clients across the South Coast of New South Wales more efficiently. With increased regional coverage and enhanced operational capacity, AG is well positioned to support long-term client partnerships and deliver reliable, accredited services wherever projects arise.
