Interested in becoming a Respiratory Technical Assessor?
NATA team

NATA is looking for volunteer Technical Assessors to provide specialist knowledge and expertise in assessing respiratory function laboratories under the new joint TSANZ/NATA Respiratory Function Laboratory Accreditation Program.

As a NATA Technical Assessor, you will work with a NATA Lead Assessor to review activities performed by the organisation seeking accreditation prior to, during and potentially after the on-site assessment.

The role of the Technical Assessor has a greater focus on technical competence under the joint TSANZ/NATA accreditation program, with the NATA Lead Assessor managing the administrative duties both pre, during and post assessment. This results in our Technical Assessors spending less time on assessment activities and more time focused on patients.

What are the benefits of being a Technical Assessor?

  • Knowledge sharing
  • Improved patient outcomes
  • Give back to the respiratory community
  • Recognised activity for CPD points
  • Provides opportunities for personal and professional development
  • Broaden the insights about your own model of operation by understanding how different facilities operate, and
  • Can help with your own lab’s accreditation

Under the TSANZ/NATA Respiratory Function Laboratory program, Technical Assessors will need to have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Relevant recognized professional qualification (e.g. FRACP, CRFS)
  • Membership of TSANZ or ANZSRS
  • 5 years clinical practice experience  in a respiratory function laboratory post qualification
  • Minimum 2 years recent experience working in an accredited respiratory function laboratory
  • Agreement to participate in a NATA Technical Assessor Development Program (ADP) within 2 years of appointment as a technical assessor
  • Willingness to participate in up to 2 assessments per year
  • Evidence of regular participation in continuing professional development (e.g. attendance at conferences, meetings, or publications of papers)
  • Demonstrated understanding of the scientific, quality, and operational aspects of a respiratory function laboratory
