John Morris Group: Celebrating 30 Years of NATA Accreditation
NATA team

The John Morris Group (John Morris) this month celebrates 30 consecutive years of NATA accreditation. Specialising in laboratory and industrial instrumentation and consumables for researchers and engineers, John Morris was initially a scientific and medical supply company, but has diversified into technical industries outside of the laboratory to supply areas such as life sciences, vacuum research, environmental, petroleum, industrial, and pharmaceutical.

John Morris is notable for being the only privately-owned scientific instrument supplier in the Southwest Pacific region. It has also remained under the same family ownership for over 70 years and three generations.

The company was among the first to introduce the microlitre pipette to Australia over 60 years ago. It is a laboratory tool that measures and transfers small amounts of liquid ranging from 1 to 1000 microliters.

Microlitre pipettes are primarily used for scientific research and testing, especially in molecular biology and diagnostics. Therefore, ensuring their accuracy and precision is essential for researchers.

Excellence in calibration

John Morris has a longstanding partnership with Gilson, another third-generation family-owned medical equipment company with a 75-year history that specialises in laboratory liquid handling products, such as manual and electronic pipettes, capillaries and piston pipette tips, multi-channel pipettes, filter tips, and more. John Morris’ history and experience in quality and precision enabled it to establish a Gilson certified calibration laboratory in Australia.

This commitment to quality and precision has included John Morris’ accreditation by NATA for its microlitre pipette calibration.

For the company, the biggest benefit of NATA accreditation is the confidence it provides in its calibration services, which have met stringent quality standards and reliability benchmarks. Together with the certification from Gilson, researchers can trust that their pipettes from John Morris will deliver reliable results, supporting accurate and impactful scientific work.

Over the years, John Morris has expanded its calibration services beyond Gilson pipettes to include all the leading pipette brands from suppliers such as Eppendorf, Thermo Fisher, and Sartorius. When it did, the company ensured its calibration services were accredited by NATA.

Valuable and essential

Accreditation by NATA has provided John Morris with confidence in the accuracy and quality of its pipettes. Although gaining and maintaining the accreditation has not been easy or quick, it has been a worthwhile achievement that the company is continually proud of.

For John Morris, being recognised by NATA was a valuable and essential step in its journey for accuracy and quality. The accreditation has not only enhanced its credibility, but has also reassured clients that they are working with a provider who meets rigorous standards of excellence.
