The National Environmental Research Academy (NERA), which is part of the Ministry of Environment in Taiwan, is celebrating 30 years of accreditation with NATA for its capabilities in sampling, testing, and quality management systems for various environmental samples, including air, water, waste, soil, and dioxins.
NERA, initially known as the National Institute of Environmental Analysis of EPA, ROC, established a quality management system in 1994 based on the international standard created by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Guide 25, which has since been incorporated into the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories standard. This included the creation of quality manuals and auxiliary documents related to the operation of the management system.
Following regular internal audits and management reviews in 1994, NERA enhanced the efficiency of the system’s operations. It successfully obtained laboratory accreditation from NATA the following year.
An ongoing commitment
Since then, NERA has continually refined its quality management system, complied with relevant environmental regulations, and successfully passed periodic evaluations and assessments by NATA to retain the accreditation.
It did so by actively following and adopting updates to international laboratory accreditation standards, revisions to NATA accreditation requirements, and adjusting to the needs of its people.
As the highest-level government environmental laboratory in Taiwan, NERA is proud of its long history as a NATA-accredited laboratory, which demonstrated that its operation is sustainably meeting the certification requirements of ISO/IEC 17025.
