In line with a new Standard – to be imminently released – NATA has joined with the Thoracic Society of Australia & New Zealand (TSANZ) to offer accreditation to respiratory function laboratories for a range of tests that will contribute to better health outcomes and treatments for patients with respiratory and lung health conditions.
The new program – TSANZ/NATA Respiratory Function Laboratory Accreditation Program – will be available after NATA’s first assessment in February of this year.
The new Standard has transformed the requirements from the TSANZ Laboratory Accreditation Manual into the ISO 15189 framework. A number of requirements from the ISO 15189 framework have also been introduced into the new Standard, such as risk management and a formalised management system.
This now allows laboratories with respiratory, sleep and blood gas services to have one management system covering all three areas, reducing duplication in the implementation and on-going maintenance of the management system.
