ISO 15189 online course goes LIVE!

NATA’s Training Services group has completed work on their first public online training course.

The Understanding ISO 15189 Accreditation Requirements for Medical Laboratories course has been offered as a face-to-face option for many years but the content lends itself perfectly to an online format.

The learning outcomes remain the same, with participants being guided through the Standard and its application to their facility.

Checkpoints throughout the course provide opportunities to reflect on the information they have just been through and solidify that learning.

Once registered, participants will have three months to complete the course which should allow ample time to incorporate study into their schedule.

ISO/IEC 17025 Member and Technical Assessor updates

Throughout the month of June, hundreds of Members and Technical Assessors took advantage of the opportunity to attend information sessions on the new ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Standard presented by John Styzinski (GM, Operations & Technical) and Danielle Dicker (Assistant Technical Manager).

To give everyone an opportunity to take part, the seven sessions were available both face-to-face and via webinar.

Prior to the meetings, documents regarding NATA’s transition policy and a gap analysis were posted on the website allowing attendees time to consider what additional information they may require.

Copies of the PowerPoint slides used during the presentations will be posted on the website, along with some Frequently Asked Questions.

As always, any enquiries regarding accreditation arrangements should be directed to the facility’s Client Coordinator in the first instance.

Aspects of Quality Control in the Microbiological Laboratory Course

Associate Professor Stuart Andrews had been running NATA training focussed on biological testing since 1995.

As a result of feedback from attendees, Stuart developed and began presenting the ‘Aspects of Quality Control in the Microbiological Laboratory’ training course in 1997 and has been the presenting this course ever since.

The two day course has been regularly updated and the course materials are based on real life documents and case studies that have been contributed by NATA accredited laboratories and Technical Assessors.

Although he’s enjoyed presenting the course, Professor Andrews  has decided the time has come to bring this chapter to a close. He will be presenting the final sessions of his course in August.

Sessions are scheduled in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.

Queen’s Birthday Honour

The work of one of NATA’s Technical Assessors was recognised recently in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

Mr Ian Starr Wheatley received the Medal of the Order (OAM) of Australia for his services to pharmaceutical science.

An Assessor in the area of Chemical Testing, Mr Wheatley has undertaken a number of industry representative roles including with Standards Australia and the TGA and has been a Fellow of the RACI since 1997.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Mr Wheatley on this significant honour.

World Accreditation Day Celebrations

Each year on 9 June, we celebrate World Accreditation Day.

Established by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), World Accreditation Day seeks to raise awareness of the importance of accreditation in our everyday lives.

This year’s theme of Accreditation: Delivering a safer world seemed to resonate with Members and Technical Assessors with quite a number taking part in our annual competition. Everyone was invited to answer the question How does accreditation add value to your customers and contribute to a safer community?

Three prizes of a voucher to a restaurant of their choice were on offer. After much deliberation, the judges chose the following entries:
