NATA Accreditation #21 and #22: A history of the VicRoads (CRB/RCA) Materials Research Departments

When Dom Meadley retired from VicRoads in 2002 and joined NATA, he set himself the goal to write a history of the VicRoads (CRB/RCA) Materials Research Departments where he had been working for 37 years.

The laboratory sections of these departments had been NATA accredited since 4 February 1951, (Accreditation nos: 21 and 22). At one point, the Division held almost 20 accreditations in Construction Materials Testing, Mechanical Testing, Calibration, Chemical Testing, Non-Destructive Testing, Biological Testing, and Optics and Radiometry.  The Construction Materials Testing laboratories were spread over the regions in Victoria and on all major projects.

August 2022 is a particularly significant date for the former Materials Research Departments as much of its testing functions are to be transferred to the ARRB Group leaving only a very small accreditation of AN 21 in VicRoads at Ringwood.
