Interpreting Test Reports

When it comes to understanding and interpreting test reports the units and associated significant figures are key.

NATA is often contacted with regard to the inappropriate reporting of results where the number of significant figures exceed what is appropriate and useful to the end
user. There are a number of references that can be used to gain a better understanding of the rules that apply. Before reporting any result, the client should be consulted to ensure the report will be fit for purpose.  Where no specific instruction exists guidance such as that provided in ASTM E29-13 can be followed.
