The Australian Water Quality Centre (AWQC) celebrates a remarkable 50-years of continuous NATA accreditation
NATA team

The AWQC plays a critical role in the supply of safe, reliable water and wastewater services to the people and communities who rely on them.

Their specific water industry focus drives their comprehensive range of NATA accredited sampling, analysis, and research and consultative services associated with the chemistry, microbiology, biology and ecology of waters, wastewater, sediment and sludge.

AWQC helps their customers solve water quality issues and rapidly respond to major water quality incidents. They also provide expert advice on disinfection and water treatment systems and water treatment plant process optimisation.

We spoke to them on the eve of their 50-year celebration.

How did you come to be accredited with NATA and in what area for?

“In 1974 AWQC was initially accredited for Chemical Testing and then gained accreditation in 1979 for Biological Testing.”

Have you kept the same accreditation or extended into other areas?

“While we have mostly kept the same accreditation, we have extended our accreditation into radiation testing and bacterial DNA (molecular) analysis.”

Has NATA accreditation contributed to your, your clients and industry success?

“Yes, without question. It gives assurance and confidence to our customers that we are reliable and provide quality results that are produced using accredited methods, with processes and procedures regularly reviewed by SMEs. It also provides our laboratory teams with the confidence that they are working in an accredited laboratory and producing results of the highest standard.”

We thank AWQC for their time and wish them every success for the future.
